Museumhuis Sloëtjes

Museumhuis Sloëtjes

On entering this 1955 terraced house at J.P. Coenstraat 80 in Hilversum you step straight into a time capsule. Husband and wife Ton and Nel barely changed the interior over the years, and son Henk went on lovingly to treasure and preserve it. His Dinky toys are still on the Tomado shelving, the wedding finery is still in the wardrobe, and even the receipts and Christmas cards can still be found neatly arranged in a drawer.

At first glance, this looks like a perfectly ordinary terraced house, but there’s something very special about Huis Sloëtjes: Rarely have a building and its interior been preserved so completely. The combination of the interior and the family history gives an intimate glimpse of family life between the 1950s and 1980s that virtually every Dutch person can identify with. Do come in!

About Museum houses of the Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser

Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser has been preserving the most beautiful houses in the Netherlands for more than 100 years. Museum houses are this associations special houses. They paint a picture of life in the Netherlands from 1550 to the present day. As well as stories about the architecture, the history and the residents, most importantly, you can experience the houses for yourself. In the museum houses, there is no need to whisper and there are no roped-off areas. Sit on the chairs, look in the cupboards or bake biscuits in the kitchen...
