Galerij Prins Willem V

Galerij Prins Willem V

In 1774, William V had this gallery built to display his impressive art collection to the public. This makes the Prince William V Gallery the very first museum in the Netherlands, as elite art collections were rarely opened to the general public at the time. The ever-expanding Royal Family collection soon outgrew the building and was moved to the Mauritshuis. In 1977, the gallery reopened as a museum where masterpieces from the collection can be admired.
