Museum BroekerVeiling

Museum BroekerVeiling

Museum BroekerVeiling, the world’s oldest sail-through vegetable auction, is the beating heart of the municipality of Dijk en Waard, rich with wetland areas. The museum is the co-treasurer of Het Rijk der 1000 Eilanden and the starting point from which to discover the Oosterdel area on foot, by canoe or electric-powered boat. Truly a museum where you can join in and experience all it has to offer. Make sure you allow plenty of time. Here you can buy vegetables at the auction, sample familiar and new flavours and discover the history of this unique part of the Netherlands while on a guided boat tour.

A full tour of the museum takes around three hours. During the demonstration auction, you will be taken back to the early 20th century and learn all about how auctions used to be run. You’ll also be able to place your own bids. The guided boat tour lasts around an hour and will take you through Het Rijk der Duizend Eilanden while the skipper explains to you how market gardeners used to work in the various fields. To complete the experience, you can also explore the museum and the outdoor area with the free audio tour.
