Museum Engelandvaarders is where you can discover and experience the extraordinary stories of the Engelandvaarders: men and women who escaped from the occupied Netherlands during the Second World War to join the Allied forces in the United Kingdom and fight Nazi Germany and Japan.
Hundreds left in barely seaworthy boats, while others made arduous trips by land, via Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal and even Russia. Over 2,000 Dutch succeeded in reaching the shores of England. There were many others who were not successful in making the crossing – who drowned at sea, were arrested, imprisoned or shot.
