Trading ships, battle fleets, whalers, all anchored off Texel: in the 17th century, this was the main port at which to load and unload cargoes, and to wait for a fair wind. It could be quite an eery place to be during storms when it was not uncommon for ships to succumb to the waves on occasion. As a result, dozens of shipwrecks still lie on the seabed off Texel today. Find out what divers and fishermen have discovered on the wrecks at Museum Kaap Skil, and experience what life was like for the islanders a century ago at the open air museum. With houses furnished in authentic period style, a windmill and beachcomber presentation.
