The National Holocaust Museum tells the story of the persecution of the Jews in the Netherlands. Before the Second World War, Jews and non-Jews lived alongside one another, each having equal rights in the country. During the occupation, the Nazis murdered six million Jews in Europe in what is known as the Holocaust or Shoah. Three quarters of the Jewish population in the Netherlands were murdered in the Holocaust.
The daily lives of Jewish people before the Second World War, the liberation as experienced by Jews, and the place of the Holocaust in our national culture of remembrance are also covered in the museum. The National Holocaust Museum presents history in its unvarnished state and gives a human face to the victims.
