Zaans Museum

Just a stone’s throw from Amsterdam, the Zaan region grew to become Western Europe’s oldest industrial region. In times gone by, a total of six hundred windmills were in operation here! The region has been a centre for the manufacture of food products - including cocoa, rice and oil - over several centuries. At the centre of the Zaans Museum, you will find the Verkade Experience – an experience for young and old alike! Here you can imagine life in an early 20th-century chocolate and biscuit factory, where the original machines still run at full pelt and Verkade’s history comes to life.
